Nev Jones PhD is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work and affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh.  An interdisciplinary mental health services researcher, she has formal training in social and political philosophy (BA, MA), psychology (PhD), and medical anthropology (postdoctoral fellowship).  In the US, Dr. Jones work has been recognized with major national awards in disability rights and justice, as well as substantial competitive federal research funding.  Her primary areas of focus include the reconceptualization of psychosis from the perspective of lived experience, structures underlying the excess use of coercion in the treatment of psychosis, and policies and interventions to reduce poverty in the context of long-term psychiatric disabilities.  Her work is grounded in direct personal and family experience of schizophrenia, and deeply invested in centering the perspectives of those directly impacted by public sector mental health and social welfare policies.
